The Siskiyou County Tobacco Education Project is the local lead Agency responsible for preparing and submitting a comprehensive tobacco control plan to the California Department of Public Health, Tobacco Control Program on behalf of Siskiyou County.
Major goals of the project are:
- to reduce exposure of all county residents to second-hand and third-hand smoke;
- to reduce the availability of tobacco and counter pro-tobacco influences directed toward youth;
- collaborate with both tobacco funded and diverse partners to promote community norm change and utilize environmental strategies to combat tobacco; and
- support tobacco users through promotion of the California Smokers’ Helpline and by providing resources on an individual basis.
The Tobacco Education Project supports the Tobacco Education Council, which is a group of interested community representatives committed to reducing tobacco's harm to the population of Siskiyou; both work to move these goals forward.
