How You Can Get Ready, Get Set and GO!

A disaster can strike without notice, and evacuations may be issued at any time for various emergencies. You may have hours to evacuate or only minutes to flee. You can take the necessary steps now to prepare yourself and your property.

1.  Know Your Alerts - Sign up for ReadySiskiyou - Alerts.

2.  Know Your Zone - Siskiyou County OES, Local Fire and Law Enforcement have collaborated to identify your evacuation zone.  Know all your exits and understand how to get out both in daylight and darkness. Visit Genasys Protect to find your zone.

3.  Be Ready - Make a kit, have a plan, and practice it.  Use the checklist below to guide you.

4.  Stay Together - Please take only ONE vehicle in an evacuation, whenever possible, to minimize gridlock. Prepare this vehicle for evacuation by keeping the gas tank full and parking it facing the street for a quicker departure.

Know Your Alerts

Be Ready and know the two levels of alerts and how to receive evacuation orders.

You may be asked to evacuate your home during a wildfire or emergency. You may have hours to evacuate or only minutes to flee. It is vital you understand Siskiyou County's evacuation system and be prepared to receive evacuation orders.

First and Foremost:

Get Get Ready ImageReady long before an evacuation.  Information is Critical

  • Know Your Zone with Genasys Protect. Print a map of your evacuation zone and review all the options available for you to exit your zone and exit town. 
  • Sign up for ReadySiskiyou - Alerts alert system using your cell phone, email, or and landline.
  • Check that Genasys Protect and Reputable Social Media sites for information during emergencies. 
  • ​Prepare a “go kit” for each family member and plan for pets and family members with special needs. 
  • Keep your evacuation vehicle gas tank full or fully charged if electric.

 

The Two Levels of Evacuation Notices

Get SetWARNING:  Get Set by maintaining situational awareness when an emergency threatens.

  • Be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice with "go kits" in your evacuation vehicle.
  • The vehicle is packed and valuables are near the door.
  • You do not need to wait for an Order, consider evacuating Now, if you are elderly or your family needs extra time or conditions make you feel unsafe.
  • This Warning may be the only evacuation notice you receive if conditions worsen rapidly, so leave if conditions feel unsafe.

 

Go! ImageORDER:  Go!  Leave promptly when evacuation orders are given or when safety feels compromised.  Do not wait and leave too late.

  • Leave Immediately.  Do not spend further time collecting additional belongings.
  • You will not be able to return until the conditions are safe.
  • Evacuation routing can change as an event unfolds.  Continue monitoring Genasys Protect and Reputable Social Media Sites.
