Lanterman, Petris, & Short Act (L.P.S.) Conservatorship
A conservator of the person or both person and estate may be appointed for those persons found unable to provide for their own basic personal needs of food, clothing, or shelter as a result of a severe mental disorder/illness. These persons are considered “gravely disabled”. This type of conservatorship lasts for one year but may be continued upon the Public Guardian reapplying to the court.
