Recycling
The Recycling program is part of the Sanitation Division and is guided by the California state recycling programs. The County makes every effort to inform residents of recycling opportunities and special events. Special events are posted on the County calendar and in most cases are also posted in the Newsroom section of the site home page.
California Refund Value (CRV) Recycling
California Refund Value (CRV): is the amount paid by the consumer at the checkout stand and paid back to consumers when they recycle eligible aluminum, plastic, glass and bi-metal beverage containers at certified recycling centers.

Containers must have a label saying: CA CASH REFUND, CA CRV, California Redemption Value, CA Redemption Value, California Cash Refund to actually get reimbursement at Redemption Centers as noted on the location list below.

Aluminum: Flattening cans is not necessary, but they should be clean and dry. No tin cans, foil or pie plates.

Glass: All glass food and beverage containers should be rinsed and have the lids removed. It is not necessary to remove the labels. No cookware, window glass, ceramic or mirrors.

Plastic: All plastic containers marked #1 PETE and #2 HDPE are recyclable. Containers marked #3 through #7 are recyclable but not always in your area. Check with the local recycling center first.
- Cardboard: only at specific locations: Yreka Transfer, Oberlin Transfer Station and Black Butte Transfer Station. No Styrofoam or plastic in boxes, no wax or slick surfaced cardboard. No food boxes, cereal boxes, paper or trash.
Sharps/Needles: these are NOT recyclable at any center, transfer station or 24hr bin. Please contact Public Health Department 530-841-2134.
