Fluoride

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral found in varying amounts in water sources such as rivers, lakes, and oceans. When you drink the water, the fluoride helps rebuild weakened tooth enamel. It is nature’s cavity fighter!

How does fluoride protect teeth?

Fluoride benefits everyone! When you are a child, before your teeth break through the gums (erupt), fluoride that is taken in from foods, beverages, and dietary supplements makes tooth enamel stronger, making it easier to resist tooth decay. This is called a systemic benefit.

After teeth erupt, when you use fluoride toothpaste, other fluoride dental products, and the fluoride applied to the surface of your teeth (fluoride varnish), it helps rebuild (remineralize) weakened tooth enamel and reverses early signs of tooth decay.
