Nine Siskiyou County Elected Officials Sworn into Office

On January 3rd, 2023, nine Siskiyou County elected officials were sworn into office, including District 3 and District 5 Supervisor, Sheriff, District Attorney, Clerk-Recorder/Registrar of Voters, Assessor, Superintendent of Schools, and Treasurer/Tax-Collector. Congratulations to all!

Michael Kobseff - District 3 Supervisor
Michael Kobseff - District 3 Supervisor was sworn in for his fifth term as District 3 Supervisor, representing the City of Weed, Lake Shastina, Grenada, Big Springs, Gazelle and a portion of Mount Shasta northwest of Abrams Lake Road.

Ray Haupt, District 5 Supervisor
Ray Haupt was sworn in as District 5 Supervisor, making this his third term. District 5 includes Fort Jones, Etna, Scott Bar, Happy Camp, Horse Creek, Seiad Valley, Callahan, Sawyers Bar, Forks of Salmon, Somes Bar, Hornbrook, and Hilt.

Jeremiah LaRue - Sheriff
Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue was sworn in for his first term as Sheriff/Coroner.

The Sheriff’s Office provides Law Enforcement services in the unincorporated areas of the county. Additionally, the Sheriff acts as the Coroner. The Sheriff’s office and team provide effective, and responsive public safety services to the citizens of Siskiyou County and visitors to our community.

Kirk Andrus - District Attorney
Kirk Andrus was sworn into his fifth term as District Attorney for Siskiyou County.

Mr. Andrus was appointed from a statewide slate of candidates and became the youngest District Attorney in California when he took office on April 11, 2005.

Craig Kay - Assessor-Recorder
Craig Kay was elected to his second term as Assessor-Recorder. Craig served as the Assistant Assessor-Recorder for eight years until being elected Assessor-Recorder in 2018.

The Assessor-Recorder Department is composed of two divisions; the Assessor Division and the Recorder Division. The Assessor’s Division is responsible for annual assessment rolls, appraisals, valuations, homeowner exemptions, and other exemptions, among other things. The Recorder Division is responsible for accepting the recordation of any instrument, paper, or notice which is authorized by law to be recorded. Once these documents are recorded, the Recorder makes this information available for examination by interested parties and issues copies upon request, among other tasks. In addition, the Recorder maintains and indexes the vital records of birth, death, and marriage certificates.

Jennifer Taylor - Treasurer-Tax Collector
Jennifer Taylor was sworn into her first term as Treasurer-Tax-Collector.

The Treasurer-Tax Collector's responsibilities are to provide tax collection services, business license issuance, banking services for the County, and to invest monies in the Treasurer's custody to earn interest revenues until the monies are required to fund operating expenditures in addition to other tasks.

Laura Bynum - County Clerk-Registrar of Voters
Laura Bynum was sworn in to her second term as Clerk-Recorder/Registrar of Voters.

The Clerk-Registrar of Voters-Clerk of the Board’s Office has three primary functional divisions; Elections, Clerk of the Board, and Clerk. The Clerk’s office issues marriage licenses, performs civil wedding ceremonies, administers claims against the county, accepts passport applications, and fillng for fictitious business name statements. The Elections division provides information to Siskiyou County residents regarding the election process, voter registration and election results. The role of the clerk of the Board of Supervisors is to be responsible for ensuring agenda items meet County submission standards as explained in the Agenda Guidelines as well as maintaining board-related records.

Diane Olson - Auditor-Controller
Diane Olson was elected to her first term as Auditor-Controller.

The Auditor-Controller performs duties under the legal authority set forth in California Code, principally those sections of the Government Code beginning with Sections 26880 and 26900. The Auditor-Controller's Office provides a broad range of financial accounting, property tax and auditing services to County Departments, agencies, and special districts whose funds are kept in the County Treasury.

Allen Carver - County Superintendent of Schools
Allen Carver was elected to his first term as County Superintendent of Schools after serving as the Assistant County Superintendent for four years.
