Roads and Bridges Memorandum of Understanding
Prior to construction beginning on the Klamath Dam Removal Project (Project) in 2021, the Klamath River Renewal Corporation (KRRC) and Siskiyou County entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining the measures KRRC will take to mitigate for impacts to County roads and bridges that occurred during the Project. The original MOU set aside approximately $3 million in funding from KRRC for dam removal-related roadwork. After further negotiations between the parties, the First Amendment of the MOU was signed in May 2023, which clarified what funds could be used for road maintenance verses post-dam removal repairs. On December 10, 2024, the parties entered into a second MOU Amendment, which states that KRRC will provide the County Department of Public Works with a lump sum payment of $3.5 million dollars and donated road base for post-construction repairs along Copco Road. This amendment calls for the County to complete needed repairs to Copco Road, which is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2025. Prior to initiation of the road work, the County will release a public statement and notifications to residents informing the public of any potential delays or road closures. If you have any questions related to the second amendment of the MOU, or the timing of the roadwork along Copco Road, please reach out to the County at: lkdinfo@co.siskiyou.ca.us.
