Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA)

The Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) was passed in September 2014 that requires local agencies to develop Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSP) that will assess and project future groundwater conditions, and provide management and monitoring activities.

There are four medium priority basins in Siskiyou County; Butte, Scott, Shasta and Tulelake. Submitted GSP's can be found by clicking on the below Subbasins:

The Siskiyou County Flood Control and Water Conservation District, is the GSA for the Butte, Scott, and Shasta Valley basins. District meetings are held during the regularly scheduled Board of Supervisors meetings.

The Siskiyou County Board of Supervisor’s serve as a member of the Tulelake GSA along with Tulelake Irrigation District, Modoc County, and the City of Tulelake. SGMA is a locally driven public process, advisory committees made up of varying water interests have been established for each basin. The committees will regularly meet to review technical information and provide recommendations to the GSA Board. These meetings will provide an opportunity for the public to participate and engage in the process. Please click on the below links for information on your basin of interest.
