Building Permit Application and History
Building Permits Applications can be downloaded from Supporting Documents on the main Building webpage.
In a letter dated March 1, 1993 from the Department of Housing and Community Development to County of Siskiyou, Building Department, Chief Building Inspector confirms the snow load requirements for conventional construction and manufactured housing. The snow loads are as follows:
40 pounds per square foot in all areas except:
- McCloud 60 pounds per square foot
- Mt. Shasta 60 pounds per square foot
- Weed 60 pounds per square foot
- Happy Camp 60 pounds per square foot
- Dunsmuir 60 pounds per square foot
Under the current Building Codes, County of Siskiyou is one of the areas within California that does not have a specific ground snow load listed. The California Building Codes, Chapter 16, Figure 1608.2 ground snow load map shows the area of the county as “CS”. It specifies that site-specific case studies will determine the snow loads. Furthermore, referencing the Chapter 16, Section 1608.1 General, states that the design snow loads shall be determined in accordance with Chapter 7 of ASCE 7 based on ground snow loads.
Roof Snow Loads
The snow loads that are posted are for all structures below 5,000 ft and are calculated as flat roof snow loads with no reductions. To verify the specific roof snow loading in your area please contact the building department staff by calling our office at 530-841-2100.
Snow loads for structures above 5000 feet are site specific and must be verified with the Building Department.
Snow Loads - 60 psf
All Commercial, Residential, Accessory structures and Manufactured Homes in the following areas of McCloud, Mt. Shasta, Weed, Happy Camp and Dunsmuir are to be designed using the following roof snow loads.
60 psf flat roof snow load, with no reductions are allowed. An equivalent ground snow load of 73 psf may be used to calculate roof loads with no reductions.
Snow Loads 40 psf
All Commercial, Residential, Accessory structures and Manufactured Homes in the other areas of the county are; portions of Weed (Lake Shastina), Yreka, Fort Jones, Etna, Callahan, Dorris, Macdoel, Gazelle, Grenada, Montague to name a few. Are to be designed with the following roof snow loads:
- 40 psf flat roof snow load, with no reductions, are allowed. An equivalent ground snow load of 54 psf may be used to calculate roof loads
- To verify the specific roof snow loading in your area please call our office 530-841-2100.
Manufactured Homes
Furthermore, manufactured housing (mobile homes) as of January 1993 a decision by the Department of Housing and Community Development requires all new or used mobile homes placed after January 1993 to meet the same minimum design loads applicable to site and factory (modular) built structures.
Mobile homes can be set with a less snow load if they have an engineered roof Ramada structure designed by a California licensed professional over them that meets the snow load.
