Public Notice: Potential Algae Bloom in Lake Shastina

Lake Shastina Potential Bloom Image

Environmental Health and Public Health has been alerted to a potential cyanobacterial bloom in Lake Shastina. This information comes from both a public inquiry and an alert via our Satellite HAB Map. Staff from the Siskiyou County Environmental Health Department and the Regional Water Board visited the area and confirmed extensive bloom conditions in the waterbody.

As a precautionary measure, the Environmental Health Division, in collaboration with the Lake Shastina Community Service District, will be posting low-level caution signage around the lake to warn the public of the potential hazard.

The Water Board has collected samples from the lake, and we are currently awaiting test results to determine the presence of potentially toxic cyanobacteria.

Please stay informed and exercise caution when near the water. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety of our community.

We will update you as things develop.

If you have any questions, please call the Lake Shastina Property Owners Association at (530) 471-2020.
